Amb. Ali D. Mohamed is Kenya’s Special Envoy for Climate Change in the Executive Office of the President, bringing over three decades of distinguished leadership in environmental policy, climate diplomacy, and sustainable development. With a career spanning senior roles across government, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Environment and Mineral Resources and Special Programmes, and Director of UN and Multilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – he has been at the forefront of shaping Kenya’s and Africa’s climate agenda.
A respected voice in global climate negotiations, he previously served as Chair of the Africa Group of Negotiators under the UNFCCC, advancing Africa’s collective interests on the world stage. His expertise spans natural resource management, disaster response, and multilateral environmental governance.
Amb. Mohamed continues to play a pivotal role in international climate leadership, serving in key positions across global platforms, including as Co-Chair of the Global Solidarity Levies Task Force and the Coalition to Enhance Demand in High-Integrity Carbon Markets. Recognized among Africa’s 100 most influential people in 2024 and a recipient of the 2025 Gusi Peace Prize, his work reflects a lifelong commitment to advancing climate action, environmental diplomacy, and sustainable development.
